Hide Behind a Wall of Minions as a Witch Doctor in Hardcore

Playing as a Witch Doctor in Hardcore is both good and bad. Other than the Wizard the Witch Doctor is probably the easiest character to kill in the game. They don’t have much armor and if a strong enemy gets in close that is pretty much it. On the other hand, with the proper spec you will be very hard for an enemy to get to, and even if you do die, you get a second chance.
Utilize your Pets
As the only pet class in the game, your pets are your biggest advantage. You should have Zombie Handler, Zombie Dogs with the Life Link skill rune and the Gargantuan with the Humongoid skill rune. Before entering a fight you have to summon all four dogs and your Gargantuan because they are your shield that will keep you alive in a fight.
The Zombie Dogs also add to your life because they
absorb some of the damage you take which should help you stay alive quite a bit longer.
Plan of Attack
On top of the pet spells you should also have Corpse Spiders with the Medusa Spiders skill rune and Firebats with the Vampire Bats skill rune. The Corpse Spiders will keep all your enemies snared so even if you happen to lose your pets you should be able to run away. After hitting them with Corpse Spiders you should unleash as many Firebats on them as you can because each hit does considerable damage while healing you.
Crowd Control
If you get caught by your enemy you are as good as dead. With Mass Confusion and Grasp of the Dead you should be able to avoid that. Mass Confusion will give you the edge you need to win the battle if things get close. Grasp of the Dead will slow down a group enough for you to finish them off or to run away.
Survival
In order to maximize your chances of survival you need Spirit Vessel. It is the best Hardcore ability available because it essentially brings you back from the dead. Right after Spirit Vessel is used you need to do whatever you can to keep your enemies away from you because you will only have 10 percent of your life.
Jungle Fortitude is an excellent addition to the build because it makes the Witch Doctor a little sturdier than he normally is. With this passive you should be able to last in a melee fight for at least a few seconds longer, which should give you enough time to win or run away.

This is a nice post, I'm playing my witch doctor at the moment in Diablo3 and having a real hard time getting trough act 4. Anyways I learned a little bit more from this post :) keep up the good work!

Interesting post. Does anyone feel like Diablo3 is losing it's player base? I think it is slowly dropping down atleast the rate of Auction House items.
